Optimal Polyethyleneimine Molecular Weight and Arrangement for Modification of γ-Cyclodextrin Metal Organic Frameworks (γ-CD-MOFs) for Post-Combustion CO2 Capture

Modified γ-cyclodextrin metal organic frameworks (γ-CD-MOFs) are a promising eco-friendly sorbents for post-combustion CO2 capture. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) has been widely used modifying MOFs to enhance their sorption capacity and selectivity through the introduction of selective amine groups. The main objective this study was determine optimal PEI molecular weight arrangement (linear or branched) γ-CD-MOF’s capacity. γ-CD-MOFs were impregnated with linear as well branched weights 600, 1200 10,000. PEI-impregnated determined using quartz crystal microbalance assembly at partial pressures from 0.35–1.0 atm. Impregnation 600 g/mole achieved highest 0.9 mmole/g 1 atm, followed by (0.12 mmol/g). Modification other did not achieve detectable sorption, likely because pore blockage relatively larger weights, demonstrated docking simulations. Furthermore, control sorb CO2, lower attraction forces between large volume unmodified MOFs.
